Description
The seven Kwanzaa candles representing the Heritage of the African community. Neo Color II watersoluble wax pastels were used to create the candles, background and flame were painting with watercolors. Wicks created with black and white charcoal.
Happy Kwanzaa!
What I learned before painting.
Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, but a celebration of culture and heritage.
Celebrated from December 26 to January 01 of each year.
The Seven Principles:
First day, black candle, is Umoja: unity.
2nd day, red candle, Kujichagulia: Self-Determination
3rd day, green candle, Ujima: Collective work and responsibility.
4th day, red candle, Ujamaa: collective economics
5th day, green candle, Nia: Purpose
6th day, red candle, Kuumba: Creativity
7th day, green candle, Imani: Faith
The order of lighting the candles, and what they each represent, is a sea of difference on the internet. I attempted pulling the overlapping similarities together.
